2017 Hyundai Sonata is possible to release with the plug-in hybrid performance that could reach around 22 miles of electric range. It is mentioned that the company would like to start the market sometime in 2017.  You can find out the latest green machines which were presented by Hyundai at Detroit Auto Show especially for 2016 version. Based on that announcement, it could be seen that the car has impressive specifications.

Exterior and Interior

Both Sonata and Sonata Hybrid PHEV will go with updated grid, front, rear fascias, lighting and front fenders. The improvement is also supported with refreshed dashboard to give more details around 2017 Hyundai Sonata. For the Plug-in version, it has load port wing with single shell. On the dashboard, you can find out charge indicator to check the charge status.

2017 Hyundai Sonata for both versions will offer exclusive design with the support of Graphite Blue Pearl Mist Seaport and paint color for its exterior. The cabin is more complete with gray or beige fabric or leather, brand new Blue Pearl Leather for optional with contrast stitching and trim details.

We expect to find out standard safety features including collision warning front, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning and cross-traffic alert. Lane Change Assist is also possible to offer. For plug-in hybrid version in 2017 Hyundai Sonata will also has smartphone application Blue Link to allow remote start, climate control activation, load control and door locks.


It is mentioned by many reports that the car has lithium-polymer battery with the output about 9.8kWh for Hybrid and it means that the car has five times of battery size compared to the common hybrid. 2017 Hyundai Sonata is possible to go with this engine to provide for more than 22 miles of all-electric range with the recharge time around 2.5 hours.

The engine performance is basically supported with GDI four-engine 2.0 liter that is paired to six-speed auto transmission. The electric motor has 50kW so that the total output is around 220 horsepower. It is also possible to see four-cylinder petrol with 154 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque. It is estimated by Hyundai that 93mpg in combined could be achieved with the plug-in for EV mode. Overall, the gas engine has 38 mpg for city and 43 mpg on highway while 40 mpg for combined. The basic structure for standard 2017 Hyundai Sonata hybrid is similar but the electrical components are resized. It has 1.62kWh battery to complete electric motor 38kW with the speed for more than 75mph. The fuel economy is around 39 mpg on city, 44 mpg on highway and 42 mpg on combined.
